Vtec Minimum Vechical Speed Set point

Post by deadphishy »

I just have a quick question.

I have a k24 in my Civic and it make more power then I can put down. I was wondering if I could set the Vtec minimum speed to something like 25 Mph so i won't enter High lobe untill late in first gear. This way i can keep the Tq down closer to a level my tires can handle.

I understand I should not set it to a speed that will take the motor over 6500 rpm.

So i'm thinking of setting it the 1st gear speed that gets me to 6500 rpm, and shifting before that point to avoid Vtec in first all together.

Major question is will this hurt the motor at all?

Thanks
Ryan

You will need to talk to your engine builder to see what is safe at what RPMs and cam angles.

I'm not talking about what is a safe RPM range for my motor. My motor was made to spin up to about 8k max. it makes peak power at 7300. But I'm just wondering if setting the Vtec minimum speed to something like 28 mph will hurt anything. I don't see why it would, just making sure.

I take the motor to 6k all the time without Vtec when I'm tuning it.

Reason for this, Anything over 1/2 throttle in first gear will break loose the tires.

Motor made 160 wheel lbs Ft, at just over 2k rpm.

It will be safe as long as you are not over reving on the low cam.
