Can anyone explain how to get the timing right for the y8 using the s300? I now have a y8 block/head with z6 rockers and cam. Everywhere I've read just confuses me more with the 4.5 degree an 9 degree offsets as well as setting the idle region to 21 or 16. Just seems lie there shoul be a basemap or a simple answer somewhere so I can atleast get the car to my nearest tuner which is 4 hours away. Calibration I'm using is the stock p28 one that comes with smanager and the car just overhears due to abnormally high cylinder temps which my machinest claims is a timing issue after looking at my plugs. I can't tell you what you need to set the timing to based on what you ahve done to the engine. Only your engine builder or tuner will be able to tell you that.

Overheating is usually a cooling system problem.

well cooling system issues is something i've considered, but I have a aftermarket radiator, new honda water pump, nothing is restricting flow, the only thing that could possibly have an issue with cooling is the sleeves. In which my machinist said that they shouldn't be an issue. So i'm sort of at a loss. Anyone know any good tuners in the jacksonville,nc area?

if you have d16y8 cam gear 21,75degree inn hondata is 12 degree on crank.

So use a d16z6 cam gear and you can match timming between hondata and crank.



You heat problem is because of you timming is wrong.

Why is that you would lock the ignition timing at 21.75? That is would not be synchronized with the actual mechanical timing. I have been all over d-series asking this very question.

Additionally, do you guys jump the service connector to set timing?
