Fried a p28

Post by DevineCRX »

Last week I socketed a euro p28 for hondata. Everything was fine for a week. Today while driving, one of the capacitors fried on the ecu. The cover of the ecu was off since I had the ZIF socket hooked up. Could something have fallen into the ecu and cause it to fry? What else could it have been? a bad soldering job? I looked over the places that were soldered and everything looks fine. Has this happened to anyone else?

Anyone know how to convert a p06 to vtec? I have all the parts from my fried p28.

It's moisture that fried your P28. If you replace that cap it can still work. Saw at leat five of them from the surplus shop like that and was able to repair it.

i hope it was moisture and not my soldering job...unfortunately the ecu cannot be repaired...it did some serious damage to the board...basiclly burnt a hole where one of the leads on the cap was. ..hopefully i can find instructions on how to convert a p06 to vtec using parts from the fried p28

cover off caused moisture ?

I've been driving my car the the cover off the ECU for months now ... And never saw any moisture on the board ... I don't think having the cover off could cause enough moisture to gather on the board to cause a cap to burn out, unless of course you are in a very, very humid climate.

It doesn't matter if there is a hole. Ingenuity will help. Find a way to tap a new capacitor. That capacitor is only a filter for the power supply.

the traces on the board are exposed and i think even burnt....i dont think its still good...i could try and put in a new cap and see if it still works...i wonder if anything else got messed up though?
