low vacuum camshaft and TPS vs MAP based tuning

Post by HondaFan81 »

This pertains to a street build. The camshaft engineer recommended to run TPS based at idle due to the low vacuum based on the camshaft. However, the thought of being entirely TPS based for a street car does not sound good to me.

It seems in S300 you can setup tables for both TPS and MAP based. I was thinking TPS based for idle and low load conditions, switching to MAP for high load conditions. The switching between maps done with preset conditions.

What do you experienced people recommend for this setup?

My Setup:

- NA SOHC non-VTEC F22ax 12.4 CR engine
- Aggressive F22ax camshaft, low vacuum at idle
- 74-69mm throttle body
- H23 intake manifold
- IACV installed with coolant lines
- IAT installed
- Stock MAP sensor installed
- FITV & air starting valve removed
- Pump 93 octane
- Hondata S300/USDM P06 ECU

You should use standard map and tps based tuning. Using Alpha-N is only for ITBs.

I appreciate your input.

I know of one person with same camshaft and similar setup (however 11:1, 2306 cc) and they are MAP sensor based tuned. They are idling well at 1500-1700 RPM with 12inHg vacuum. Their IACV duty cycle is all the way to the right (100%). They state their brake booster works fine as well. Their application is mostly for track, but occassional street use.

My objective is to idle consistent/no-stall and have the brake booster working. I am 12.4 CR and 2207cc, I hope to have a lower idle RPM with adequate vacuum. 1500+ idle is getting up there

Any tips on idle setup would be greatly appreciated.
