S2000 Ignition Timing Drift?

Hey Guys,

I've got a car I'm helping a guy out with who is having some strange problems with very erratic timing changes while at steady state or accelerating.

Background Information:

He has a "newer" Kpro PRB ECU (I do not have the serial number right now, I will retrieve it from him tomorrow).

He is using v 1.3.5.4

This is an AP1 s2000, He has to my knowledge done the sensor conversion and done all appropriate actions to swap to the PRB ecu correctly.

He has an InlinePRO stroker kit, 35R, Bosch 1000's (high imp), Stock Cams.

I shouldn't need to describe the problem, if you glance at the log, you will feel that engines pain in 30 degree timing swings.

Only looking to see if this is something where I need to get the car in here and determine if the crank and tdc sensors are producing clean waveforms, or if this could be something simple like some type of software error.

Thanks for your time,

Sander

I can not attach the log file, if desired, I will happily email it to whomever would like to see it. The size is 5.2MB

You will need to tell us exactly where (minutes and seconds) you are referring to in the datalog.

I have the datalog.
I believe the cause is the TPS signal causing the ECU to apply a lot of tip in retard. See 6:52 & 0:37.8
If it is possible try a different TPS and see if that changes the behaviour.

Now, I will try to help him find another test TB or TPS, although for my own sake, what about that TPS signal is suspect to you?

There are a few points where the throttle is what appears to be steady and the timing is swinging pretty signifigantly.

Not in any way questioning your advice, just curious as to how you see the TPS being a possible culprit.

Thanks,

Sander

Two reasons. The TPS signal shows signs of noise, mainly when getting the car moving. It could be made worse from the engine shaking a little from the clutch. You can see the TPS is jagged in places and then it drops to 0% at 37.8.

Secondly, I've had this in my own car and swapping the TPS fixed it.

Excellent, thanks for the input. I will swap the TB assy out and see if it is the solution and report back.

Thanks

No change on the ignition timing problem here.

The engine harness had already been replaced. The TPS has been replaced with a good known unit since the last log I had sent.

Thanks.

Any things you guys would even recommend checking?
