when setting up low and high boost to the a/c switch does something have to be done to the switch or will it work with simply selecting it from the drop down menu?

It has nothing to do with the switch on your dash. It is the AC input on the ECU iteslf you must wire a switch to. If you want to use the switch on the dash, you will have to look at a Factory service manual to determine what pin does what and wire it accordingly.
