Tools for K Series ECUs

Do Hondata have a tool avaliable to enable users to re-map their own ECUs (as opposed to just flashing a pre-worked map)?

In short, no. The Hondata folks use a system similar to what Honda/Acura dealers use to update K-series ECUs. The ECUs are flashable because Honda/Acura dealers might occasionally need to install an ECU improvement or bugfix from Honda when a car is in for service; Hondata simply took this capability and used it to install their own, improved fuel/timing/phasing maps.

We might see these programming tools trickle down to the end user some day, but probably not for a good long while.

That's not particularly useful...

So unless you build an engine to exactly the same spec as there is an off the shelf map for, your stuffed?

/Background/

I want to map the engine for a race car to optimise it for it's environment and setup.

Is that it?

Can somebody from Hondata make comment please?

In the near future Hondata will have something for you.

Good to hear. I've avoided buying a Hondata K-series ReFlash if my local dealer cannot dyno tune it for me. Hope that is the intended direction...

I take it that this is the new 'k pro'?

my question is how fixed is the lauch date?

Feb is too far away (as in the race season will have already started) for me, any danger of it being avaliable before this?

Does the K series programmable have an option for regular on/off for Vtec? Could this ECU be used to run a B series motor allowing the use of direct fire ignition? I know the ECU plugs would be different, but thats not a problem for me.

Are there any other advantages to the K series ECU that might benefit a high horsepower B series motor?

No, not possible.
