Will a second hand ECU work ?

I have a question about the Hondata upgrade for the Civic Type-R, I have ordered an second hand ECU and I want to send that ECU to Hondata for a reprogramming. My question is will this work since the ECU is not for my car from the beginning ?

Need an answer quite urgently since I already ordered the second hand ECU
