Best way to detect Knock while street tuning???

Any solid method for detecting knock that some of you are using?

I'm runing a P28 ECU on a JRSC prelude. I bought a TurboXS Knocklite but have yet to get it working where i can rely on it for knock indiction (prolly due to the stock knock sensor being innacuate).
