S300 datalogs stops when microphone is plugged in

Post by Vulak »

Hi all,

I found odd problem with S300, i took some time to build own knock sensor system and now i have problems with it, i'm not sure if I have hardware conflict with my laptop so could anyone confirm, if they can datalog with microphone plugged into laptop?

I use normal connector microphone(not USB). When I turn ignition on, hondata works nice and I can turn on dataloggin... but when I start the engine, hondata datalog stops and laptop says there's problem with usb device.

With mic plugged off, dataloggin works nice.

I tried to reinstall hondata usb drivers with mic installed but it didnt help so I belive this wouldnt indicate to hardware conflict... but am not totally sure.

How is the microphone wired from the laptop to the vehicle?
It sounds like a current loop from the laptop to vehicle via both the microphone and USB. There can only be one path from the laptop to vehicle ground (be it USB, mircrophone or laptop power supply).

hmm, microphone shoudnt touch ground anywhere in my installation.

microphone is installed inside plastic ear protectors so it shouldnt hit ground anywhere. ear protectors are connected to copper tube thats attached to block.

hondata ECU isnt touching ground either, its rolling loose on carper atm.

I dont have external power supply for laptop either, its running on laptop battery power.

One reason could be laptops power saving when mic is plugged, i didnt have time to check this out yet but did anyone test if their hondata s300 works with mic installed ? and having engine running?

my setup regonises s300 nicely, but loses it instantly when i turn engine on..

edit: once engine is started, hondata shows for laptop and goes off, pling .. and off, pling and off... :p
