S300 Question

I got my PR4 (LS) ECU modified to take the S300 unit the other day but the S300 unit itself is not socketed in the ECU yet. Should my car still be able to run properly with out the unit inside the ECU? I had a few CEL that I wanted to fix before I got the car tuned. I installed the ECU and the car is falling on its face right now. The first few times a started it it shut off as soon as it cranked and the RPMs were dropping to an idle. Then it started and ran but idled at 2000rpms. The check engine light is on all of the time and I am not able to pull any codes (jump the two wires under the dash)now. A local shop did the work but for some reason will not inform me on this question which is why im posting now. Do I need the unit and base map installed for the car to run now that the ECU has been modified to take Hondata? Thanks for any help.

if you socketed the computer, there might be base map on the socket.( bin file)... but i dont think it comes with a base map on it... You need to get the lap top on it to take values to get it to idle properly. and go from there..
also, the S300 software has a window that will tell you the CEL..

If the ecu has been socketed for the s300, then you must install the s300 and upload a base map or the ecu will be in limp mode.
