display warning sound not working

Post by carbonctr »

I would like the rpm gauge on the display to beep when I reach 8000 so I can use it like a shift light. For some reason, on the display attached, it only beeps once when I reach 8000 rpm and never beeps again while driving. I tested the warning sound on the throttle gauge at 20% and it worked fine - contantly beeping over 20% throttle. Is there something I have done wrong or does the rev gauge not support this function?

I have the following values on the gauge properties:
RedLine 8000
RedLineColour clRed
TickIncrementMajor 1000
TickIncrementMinor 500
ValueMin 0
Value Max 9000
WarningMin -10000
WarningMax 8000
WarningSound wsBeep
WarningSoundOnChange false

Any ideas?

Your display file may be corrupted. I used your settings on one of my displays and the warning sound worked perfectly. Try deleting the guage and creating a new one.

I had the same issue. I gave up and kept using the Blitz Rvit monitor.

I tried that but still have the same problem. I created a new gauge and set the warning to 3000 to test and it beeped only once when 3000 was reached then never again. If I click through a recorded datalog with playback sounds on, it beeps each time I move the cursor to a point over the warning threshold. However, it does not work during live datalog. Other sensors seem to work fine, just not rpm.
How did you test my display?

Any further ideas as to why this is not working correctly? I'm going on the track next Thursday and would like this working for then...

I tested this on the bench and other displays worked fine. Only your display had a problem. Load a differnt display and sutup the warning on that and see if the problem persists.

I tried it with Hondata ITR and AMBER displays, warning set at 2000 rpm, with both beep sound and alarm sound and it only sounds once when 2000 is reached and then never again.
Have you actually tested this in a car rather than on a test bench? Remember the alarm works fine using the throttle gauge, just not with the rpm gauge.

Characteristics of the display functions will not change between a car and the test bench.

Post the display template you are having trouble with. Also post the calibration file you are using along with a datalog showing the problem.

The display template is already posted in the first post in this topic. I have not recorded a datalog when the display warning has not been working. I do not have a copy of the calibration since the last dyno tune. Can you send me a display template with the RPM warning set at 2000RPM that works and I can try it out?

What do you mean by a throttle guage?

TPS (new guage, sensor = TPS)
If I set the the TPS WarningMax to 20 it works a treat on the same display template that the RPM warning does not work! It beeps continually when over 20% TPS instead of just once. I can test this without the engine running too :-)

On your display the reason it beeps constantly is becuase you have a warning set to go off anytime the water temp goes above 100 degrees.

It doesn't beep constantly as the water temp is almost always under 100. Thanks for pointing that out though as I will change it. The problem I had was with the RPM warning sound NOT beeping constantly when over the WarningMax.
However, when attempting to sort a problem I have with a microphone I re-installed the sound card drivers and the RPM warning sound is now working perfectly! Good old driver problem! My microphone won't work at all now but at least my shift beeper works. Perfect timing for the track tomorrow :-)
Next question...is there a way to change the beeper sound to my own sounds? I would like something a bit more "urgent".

No, you cannot change the sounds.
