Tuning and weight?

Simple question - Are tunes affected by vehicle weight?
I.e a car tuned for 1 person, then putting 4 people in the car, Does the map need to be modified to suit?
The main reason I ask is because, I have to do some towing (unfortunatly my Accord is the only car I have a towbar for) And the planned towing weight is around 500kg.
I realise it's not like I will be thrashing the car while towing, Just curious thats all.

You have the ability to change fuel compensation for each gear - Which would say that the load from each different gear, means a different tune from original map - (weight = load)
So how does that differ from carrying extra weight - wether its towing or passengers?

A properly tuned car will not need to have any changes made for extra weight.

So why does hondata have gear compensation values if weight/load doesn't matter?
That would mean a properly tuned car would have all gear compensation values set at 0.

different gears have different gear ratios, which change the load on the engine based on what gear you are in. going wide open throttle in 2nd gear at 2000 rpm up a hill is very differnt than doing the same thing in 5th gear.

Therefore going WOT in 2nd gear at 2000rpm, with an extra 500kg load on the car would be the same as the different gear ratio loads
