How do we get a 5 speed tranny to work on an 05-06' RSX
I have a 06' RSX Type-s and I want to run a 5 speed tranny from a base. The problem I run into is with the gear driven vs. countershaft driven speed sensors. The 02-04' trannys and all base model trannys are gear driven, but on the 05-06' models they are not. Is there a way to get the speedo and odometer to work on my car with a 5 speed????
Assuming the 5 speed transmission is 02-04. The transmission internals can be swapped between the 02-04 and 05-06 transmissions, so you could take the 02-04 internals and swap them into the 05-06 casing. The only trick is that the 05-06 speed sensor works by reading off the mainshaft 3rd gear, so if you change the 3rd gear ratio, then the sensor will either be too far from 3rd gear to read or will hit 3rd gear and self destruct. The answer is that there are different sized shims under the speed sensor to set the depth. The speed sensor output is dependent on the 3rd gear tooth count so that speed output will be incorrect in KManager but can be corrected for the dash. Given all this, I hope there is a good reason to use a 5 speed.

About 500whp on pump worth of turboed reasons. The car kept eating 6 speed trannies so we went with a 5 speed. Right now he is on his 3rd 5 speed. He is running a fully built K24 with a full-race stage 3gt turbo kit and a Tilton Carbonite clutch.Hondata wrote:Assuming the 5 speed transmission is 02-04. If this is the case, all you have to do is modify your gearing compensation. I was under the impression that all base model trannies from 02-06' were all gear driven. If not, this my be a simple solution after all.Spunkster wrote:The 05-06 base transmission works the same way as the Type S. Your speedo will probably be off due to the difference in teeth on the gears.
