HELP!!!! having trouble getting anywhere with ITB's!!

Post by larby »

Hi guys, hoping someone on here may be able to help me...
I've just got my first hondata ecu, a s300, which i have just fitted to my B16 along with Honda cbr929 ITB's. I'm still using 240cc injectors, as the engine is not that tuned, so i figured they should do for now, until i can afford to upgrade.
I finally got everything fitted last night, but i'm a complete noob to hondata, so i figured i'd load up the ITB base map, and start it up to see how it goes. I'm using a AEM uego wired to the stock O2 wire for datalogging, working in open loop, and i've adjusted the fuel trim to 240cc.

When I start the car up, it kind of idles, but is extremely rich. I?m talking black smoke pouring from exhaust, and a/f off the scale past 10. As soon as I start to adjust the tables though, it begins to hunt, it revs up from 1000rpm to about 4000, then it appears the fuel is cut, the a/f swings to off the scale lean, revs drop back to 1000, a/f goes back to off scale rich and so the cycle continues. This is all with no throttle.

I?ve changed my autotune settings to work from 0% throttle, turned on datalogging (as i realise autotune doesn?t work otherwise) and realtime update is on, but I cant see anything happening when I hold down ctrl+T to get it to adjust?

Sorry to sound so vague, I?m just in a bit of a panic, as I kind of expected the autotune to visibly adjust the tables to get me somewhere in the right area, and I?m not sure what is causing this hunting effect? Seems that no matter what I do, it either hunts madly, or stalls from too much fuel, I just cant seem to get any of the map right!

I know the easy answer is take it to a tuner, but i live on the little island of guernsey, and no such person exists over here, it'd also cost me ?500 just to get my car to the uk for a tuner to see it. hence i'm going at it myself.
I'm hoping maybe someone can suggest anything to get me started so i can work from there?

thanks in advance,

James

while i think of it, i also have no idle control valve fitted, i planned to control idle using the throttle bodies. is there something i need to turn off/deactivate so the ecu knows it is not there? could this be causing the problem?

cheers,

James

turns out i was getting no signal from the throttle position sensor, simple wiring fault on my behalf!
