Cars runs perfect in closed-loop... SUPER LEAN in open-loop

Post by peasly23 »

P28 ECU
D16Z6

So I have been tuning the car with the checkmark kept on closed loop. It switches to Open-loop automatically after 8 inches vacuum.

The car seems to be running PERFECT from idle to WOT (now that I fixed some major problems), however, if I sit at idle or while driving and I uncheck the "closed loop" checkbox, the car goes STRAIGHT LEAN and barely stays running or stalls immediately. I have attached my datalog and you can see when I change into open loop at frame 105, and get out of it at frame 174.

Bump to the top, just to make sure my problem doesn't go unanswered. I believe JEW is experiencing the EXACT same problem I am as well.

i'm going to try what was mentioned in the other post. i didn't know that you have to tune closed loop seprately from open loop. i thought that closed loop used the values from open loop and just made changes where necessary. i will try enabling closed loop, setting adjustments to 0, tuning to get near 14.7 and then setting adjustments back to -15 and 45. i will post again when i have results from that.

Just to clarify, you don't have to tune them "separately". Change the adjustments to 0 but keep it in closed loop all the time and let the computer take care of the rest. But you have the right idea otherwise.

The datalog is not at operating temp and is not long enough to see any long and short term fuel trim. Based on the fuel compensation tables though, this looks like totally normal behavour.

I can't get it too much longer or the car sputters and dies from being too lean.

Shouldn't the car not change running characteristics if it is tuned properly by switching between open/closed loop? I mean at least not as drastically as this?

We are currently looking into this further....it only affects the 1.3.0.0 version. The previous versions are all ok.

could you possibly provide a link to download 1.2.2 or 1.2.4? i have had a few people on other forums (reliable guys who know what they're talking about, not just random asshats) mention that those versions of smanager have worked best for them.

Fixed the problem with open loop.

Also we have added sensor value display boxes on the graph window, near the cursor, to make viewing datalogs easier.

Download here.

Thank you. Will download and test. (ooh, I like the new graph window..., still need to test other part.)

Just out of curiosity, can you tell us what the problem was? Just wondering.
