Type R Ecu Problem...

Post by blk96gsr »

Wus up people. I'm new and this is my first post so any help would be greatly appreciated.
So here's my setup. I have a 1996 gsr with I/H/E, High flow CAT, Type R intake/Exhaust Cams, and an Adjustabe fuel pressure regulator(Not sure where it is set though).
Problem: I just installed a type r ecu and now I'm getting a code 45 which is too rich or too lean. What do you guys think it is rich or lean? What can I do to fix this? Also what is the deal with my secondary intake runner operation( Does it stay open or closed, Should I Clamp it open?)

Hope this isn't too much

Thanks

First - either replace the adjustable FPR with the stock one or get a FP guage...they're only like $30, and well worth the investment if you're running an adjustable FPR. As for your rich/lean problem, it could be a number of things, but again I'd start with a FP guage. Your secondary intake runners are used for optimizing air flow characteristics. Now correct me here if I'm wrong, but your butterflies are closed at low RPM's, allowing the air to travel through the longer intake runners, which makes the car run best for this RPM range. At higher RPM's, the butterflies open allowing air to take a shortcut to the head through the shorter runners, which allows you to gain a few high end HP because of air flow characteristics at this high RPM range. Hope all that's right...I haven't had an official class in fluid mechanics yet [next semester  ].
