Gain / Benefit from disabling ELD and or Alternator control?

I have been experimenting with these two options while trying to troubleshoot an intermittant problem, but have not noticed any difference whether they are on or off.
What differences should be noticed while disabling the Electronic Load Detector and the Alternator control? The only thing that I could imagine from disabling the alternator control would be that it would charge the battery all the time and not dim the headlights at idle / under 3500 rpm. (1998 Integra R)
