Timing curve on Hot start. Why is my car hard to start

When starting a car hot it will hit on the first crank but it dies and I have to crank and crank before it will start. I have a few degrees of timing retard based on IATs. Could the car be pulling timing based on IATs when cranking? After sitting awhile the IAT will read well over 140 DEG. So is Hondata pulling timing based on that?

Cranking timing does make much difference - it is fuel. Assuming your ECT fuel correction is stock, trying changing the cranking fuel trim (when hot) to find the minimum value where the engine will start easily. Add about 30%, and use that value. Also be aware that a hot cranking issue often is from the fuel in the rail getting hot enough to cause a vapour lock.

90 Civic with OBD1 D16 engine. P28 computer, but that is irrelevant. Turbo engine with 450cc (yeah I know, not supposed to use them).

The problem is the DSM injectors. THis is one of the common problems with them. Put in RC injectors, retune it and you should have no problems.

Yeah, I kinda wondered if that was the problem. I am going to upgrade to some 550RCs and go to a bigger turbo.
