Can't start K-Pro after updating

I was running an old version of the K-Pro software from November, 2006.
I just updated to the latest version, as I have a car to tune and wanted to be prepared.
Now the software will not start. After running it, KManager.exe appears for about 2 seconds in Task Manger (at 91% CPU utilization) and then quits.
Since I was last using KManager much, I have upgraded the Microsoft DotNet framework from 1.1 to 2.0, but I have not made any other changes to the system. Windows XP SP2, all patches applied from Windows Update.
I already tried disabling my antivirus software, as this was suggested in other threads.
I already uninstalled and re-installed the software 3 times.
I already tried manually deleting all files. (few leftover)
Any suggestions? I have about a week to get this resolved.
