I was running an old version of the K-Pro software from November, 2006.
I just updated to the latest version, as I have a car to tune and wanted to be prepared.
Now the software will not start. After running it, KManager.exe appears for about 2 seconds in Task Manger (at 91% CPU utilization) and then quits.
Since I was last using KManager much, I have upgraded the Microsoft DotNet framework from 1.1 to 2.0, but I have not made any other changes to the system. Windows XP SP2, all patches applied from Windows Update.
I already tried disabling my antivirus software, as this was suggested in other threads.
I already uninstalled and re-installed the software 3 times.
I already tried manually deleting all files. (few leftover)
Any suggestions? I have about a week to get this resolved.
Thanks,
-Dave
Can't start K-Pro after updating
From the KManager directory run KProUn.exe - which will unistall the USB drivers.
Next uninstall KManager from 'Add / Remove Programs'.
In System Properties, Advanced, add an environment variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES with a value of 1.
Start the Device Manager, and under View select 'Show Hidden Devices'. Remove any device drivers which appear to relate to KPro.
Download a fresh copy of KManager and re-install.

Hondata
For reference:
The suggested measures did not solve the problem. I tried installing 1.2.2.4 / removing / setting environment variable / deleting devices. Re-downloaded installer twice to verify that there was not anything corrupt.
I was eventually able to get version 1.2.2.3 to install and run correctly.
I first ran the K pro uninstall.
I then manually searched the registry for "Kmanager", "Kmanager.exe" and deleted all keys, values, etc.
I then manually searched the registry for "Hondata" and deleted all keys, values, etc. that appeared to relate to Kmanager NOT SManager
I then reinstalled version 1.2.2.3 from CD.
It now works.
I'm scared to update, as I was informed that I wouldn't be able to get any support if the problem resurfaced because there was no error message. "There must be something messed up with your particular system causing the software not to start and you should should reinstall Windows." I ended up fixing the problem (to some degree) without reinstalling Windows, by only changing settings created by Hondata software. Hmm.
If a vendor had told me to reinstall my operating system to fix an isolated problem with their software package during my years as an IT manager, I would have found a different software package. I'd expect "the experts" to differentiate themselves as a company by being considerably more knowledgeable and helpful than occurred. :(
