Is it safe to use a Dual Head USB cable w/ KPro??

Post by esmith13 »

I was wondering if it was safe for KPro to try using a dual headed cable to interface with a laptop.

Basically I want to use a cable that goes from a USB male-B (Kpro side) to TWO USB male-A heads, one that has all pins active and the other has only power pins. This would be the same as seen with alot of 2.5" external hard drives to provide enough power to them to not need an AC adapter. I have a feeling that doing this would allow me to use a decent length cord without getting datalogging drop offs...

ANy thoughts if this is safe or not to try???

You can try it, but it is recommended to use the provided cable with the ferite beads.

I have an interference problem. My datalogging cuts out on me. I have tried other cables, additional ferrite cores, shorter cable, better quality cable, resetting the daughter board, insulating the USB connector, removing my home made grounding kit, relocating the ground as recommended, two other laptops (different brands too) and a slew of other things.

It only cuts off under hi load of the engine. I spoke to a fellow computer engineer and he said if it is line noise or other forms of interference then sometimes it can be compensated for by using double headed cables to boost the line power. Of course his suggestion applies to standard line-powered USB devices for a computer... I have no clue what it would do to KPro.

I'm just out of ideas
