first time at the track w/boost control had problems

Post by turbotypeR »

used the boost control for the first time on the track yesterday.had it set on boost per gear and it never went above the wastegate pressure.i have been having problems with the speedometer not working and thought it was the vss so i had just replaced it.it still reads mph on the laptop, but not on the speedometer.the spedometer works ever now and then.it comes and goes, jumping all around.i would think it was the gauge, but it did the same thing on my old car.anyway,i changed it to fixed duty cycle and set it pretty high-the same way it worked at the dyno last week.it made 2 passes and still wasn't raising the boost any.i got back to the pits and unplugged the selenoid and made sure it still had power and it started working the rest of the night.just wondered if anybody had any ideas why it didn't work at first.
that leads me to my next issue i had last night.the car would just shut off at 7500rpm at various times.i had the launch control set at 7500rpm,so i disabled it and it still did it every pass.i wish i would have thought to raise the rpm even though disabled to see if it would effect it.
one more problem. the on-board datalogging is not working.i have it set to come on with engine parameters.i tried rpm at 4000 and throttle at 75% to come on and 3000 and 65 mph to turn off.it had no recordings so i changed it to come on at 6000 and 25% and off at 3000 and 9mph.i made a few passes and it worked one time with onlt a 2 second recording and wasn't even at max boost.are there any other settings i am leaving out to get it to work right?

THis sounds like wiring problems. You say that the vss isn't working correctly and your speedo doesn't always work. You also say that onboard dataloging does not work when you set one of the parameters to be speed. By the way, gear based boost control needs a proper vss signal to work.

i figured out that the shut down was boost cut.i set the cut at 38psi and set the boost at 32psi on the dyno.the only problem was that the tires were spinning on the dyno.the problem with the speedo is that the laptop reads mph and the speedo does not.i would just think it was the gauge, but it did it exactly the same on my last car as well(low miles car btw).i am gonna try to start and stop recording by a switch next to see if it will work.
