K-Pro in a K20a3...Limp Mode, Cannot load map.

Vehicle: '93 Civic Si
ECU: K20a2 with KPro
Mods: K20a3 with DC Sports Header. Hybrid harness, fuel rail, pressure regulator. Otherwise, motor is stock.

Problem:
I have a K20a3 swapped '93 Civic hatchback. Car runs in limp mode, check engine light is on, will not rev past 4000 rpms. K-Manager is reading the ECU fine, it reads ignition, but whenever i try to load a k20a3 stock map onto the ECU it gives me the error message "Upload Failed!". the LED's on the ECU indicate that the ECU and K-Manager are communicating just fine.

I have consulted a couple local tuners around me and one told me that the k20a2 ECU, even when equipped with Kpro is not compatible with the k20a3, and the other told me it should be just fine since it has Kpro.

Regardless, either way i am stumped.

Thanks in advance for the assistance :)

The K20A2 ECU can run the K20A3 engine, which the exception of the secondary intake runners (If the base engine).

First check that you have relocated the engine wiring harness ground, and that you have the transmission ground and engine mount ground making good contact to bare metal on both the chassis and engine/transmission.

Next check your harness with the engine swap wiring diagram http://www.hondata.com/techk20wiring.html If the wiring is not exactly the same as stock (and the diagram), it will cause problems. If the harness is not correct, often it damages the ECU and/or KPro. Fix the harness first.

It is the k20a3 base....so what does this mean?

following up... i am at work, so i still dont have the version number. HOWEVER, my tuner has confirmed that the ECU and Kpro are fried due to horribly incorrect wiring by the previous owner. This raises a new question:

I have to buy kpro again, i have a K20A3 base in a 93 Civic. Which ECU do i buy?

The PND ECU from a Base k20a3. Otherwise you won't be able to enable the dual intake runners. I have the same engine and ran into a similar problem when I had a type-s ecu.

Did you sell this 93 civic si with the k20a3??/

Hey OneFive,

Did you sell that 93 civic si with the k20a3, dc sports headers, adjustable fuel pressure regulater, aem fuel rail, and the prb (kpro) ecu to someone else? I'm just wondering because I recently purchased a 93 civic si hatchback with the same problems as you described and with all the same features/add ons. Please reply asap...
