Which usdm ecu will pass inspection for a jdm OBDII engine?

Post by jdcarr7 »

I have a 98 jdm B16B installed in a 98 civic hatchback cx. Any datalink or inspection computers will not communicate with the jdm pct or p73 ecu. Am considering USDM p2t or p73 ecu, but as far as I know, using an american computer requires the addition of a purge control solenoid, secondary O2, and crankshaft positioning sensor to the jdm engines. The first two sensors I can add, but I have no idea how to add a cps sensor. Is there another way or different ecu to pass inspection. Can I use the OBDI ecus in this 98 OBDII vehicle and still pass an underdash plug in inspection?

You can use a Hondata system in an OBD1 ecu, but it will not work with an OBD2 scan tool. Beyond that I can't really give any advice.

Thanx for the response. I talked with kingmotorsports and they said it is possible to add a crankshaft positioning sensor. Really interesting conversation, they actually have jdm swaps at a good price. They told me they can make them able to pass plug in inspection with 99-00 si ecu, and after that they said to use what you have also replied. I was under the impression I would have to change distributers to use an OBDI ecu with OBDII engine. Wrong!
