02 PND ECU KPRO for 05 Type S K20Z1 Motor?

Post by i vietec »

Hi Doug, Derik, or Matt,

Can I use my 2002 PND KPRO to run a K20Z1 or do I need a PRB KPRO for the job? How much is the adapter wiring harness assuming my PND KPRO is able to run the K20Z1? My car was the base model rsx test car for the JRSC two years ago. I came across a motor that I might buy if my current KPRO will work. Thank you very much for your answer.

The quick answer is that the K20A2, K20A3, K20Z1, K20Z3 engines are all the same. The detailed answer is that electrically the engines are all the same, with the exception of secondary intake runners (K20A3 Base RSX only). Physically the K20Z3 uses different engine mounts. In your case swapping the K20A3 for a K20Z1 requires no wiring adapter.

However, when it comes to transmissions and vehicle wiring there are differences between the engines. The K20Z1/K20Z3 transmissions are different. See http://www.hondata.com/techk20transmissions.html

The only problem with your PRD ECU will be that it will not drive reverse lockup, if you use the 6 speed transmission. You can use a nitrous output to do the same job.

SO based on your answer to this post, I can get a Kpro to run a client's K20z3 on the new '07 Civic Si?

Thanks in advance

The post about was in reference to swapping a K20Z1 engine into a vehicle made for the K20A2.

It could be done if you completely removed the drive by wire, swapped intake manifolds and throttle bodies to the cable type, added a speed sensor to the transmission, used a K20A2 engine harness and made a custom adapter from the vehicle to wiring harness. The dash, AC, navagation, cruise control (and perhaps others) would not work.
