Idle problem

Post by norther »

I use to have an idle surge problem, I got it retuned a bit, but i still have some problems. However its no longer an idle surge. Every time i put the car in neutral, while coming to a stop, the rpms jump down to 600-500, and the car will either die or the idle will jump to the normal 1k rpms. Heres my calibration, hopefully someone can help me out.

Thanks,
-Jim

Clean the idle valve, make sure the o2 sensor is working. Can you post a datalog?

IAC valve just got cleaned, o2 sensor is working, all vacc lines are secured. I know its a tune problem most likely, because before it was definatly worse, and my tuner fixed it a bit. I'll go get a datalog.

Yes, I can read the datalog. However, I can't see the idle dipping on the datalog - can you post a long datalog when the problem occurs.

The closed loop operation looks ok. Short term trim is 5%, which is ok.

There is a daughterboard communication error. This is from insufficient battery voltage when cranking. Usually the battery is dead or it is a relocated battery.

Battery voltage is high (14.6V) when running. Probably to charge your dead battery.

Anyhow, at a guess the idle control slider is set too far to the left to compensate for a surging hot idle. The solution is to move the idle slider to the middle, and then fix the surging hot idle by retarding the ignition up to 1500 rpm for the first 6 columns, and also setting the cam timing to 0 in the same areas.

Final comment: after uploading to the ECU, the idle learn parameters are cleared. The idle will improve over the next 3 or 4 driving cycles.

It is tuning. The AF looks too rich. At idle you're getting 11.4:1 AF, cruising it has a 20-30% short term trim. Get the part throttle re-tuned.
