After having trouble getting my Ostrich to work w/ Hondata and searching endlessly w/o totally clear how to's I decided to write up a quick how to for those in my same shoes. If you have an Ostrich this means you've probably already used it on other software, if you're looking to get one to replace a broken romulator then you'll want to start w/ the first step:
1. If you are not using another Moates product (Burn1, Autoprom, etc) with drivers installed, install these first.
2. Connect your Ostrich to your primary usb and always connect it to this usb.
3. Click start, Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device manager. Expand your ports to check what com it's on (hopefully it's already on 3 or 4...if not set it to 3 or 4 (I've got mine set to 4).
4. Open Romeditor. Click Help, About and see what version you have. If you don't have at least 3.6.5.0 then join the v3 group and update to the latest version.
5. Click File, Settings, Emulation and select Transtronic Emulator and set to the com your Ostrich was on in Device manager. If it doesn't come up connected try the Racelogic.
6. If it still doesn't connect then try updating the firmware on your Ostrich. http://www.moates.net/documentation.php ... tion_id=22
7. Follow the directions on updating your Ostrich firmware and use the one listed for Hondata...make sure you follow the instructions so you don't kill your Ostrich and have to send it in for repair.
8. Re-try #5. If it still doesn't work then unplug from the usb at the computer and plug into another usb port on the computer. Go back to Device manager and see what com it has jumped to (more than likely it has jumped to another com). Unplug it again and plug it back into the original usb port. Go back into Device manager and you'll see it has jumped back to the original com port.
9. Re-try #5. It should work by now. If not, step away from your computer and hardware because you may start throwing things.
10. If #9 successfully connects then try to upload to the Ostrich. Click Emulation and Download entire rom. If it appears to download the entire rom, but at the end says download failed you have probably skipped a step or need to change another setting on your computer...hopefully you're good to go at this point.
Thanks to Craig and Darren at Moates.net for fielding my emails.
I hope my struggles help others that have the same struggle I did.
