Ignition tuning??

How do you guys tune ignition timing without using a dyno. I'm about to put a set of stage 2 crower cams in a high compression b18c1 and i don't know what to do for timing. I don't want to use just some random stock basemap, I have a feeling that will cause some problems, shoot me some ideas on what to do, thanks a bunch.

Absolutley not. There is not a way to measure timing changes other than detonation on the street.

Use a safe basemap from your tuner take it to the dyno for any timing adjustments on the dyno.

I would not reccomend anything other than some a/f tuning on the street or some map clean up for drivability.

the problem is, what ignition basemap do i use for a high compression 12:1 b18c1 with crower stage 2 cams, i have no idea what a ballpark would even be

Start with a factory calibration and begin tuning from there on the dyno.

yeah, but would it be safe to run a b16 ignition basemap, on a high compression gsr with crower stage 2 cams. Would it be ok to drive an hour on the highway with that basemap to get to a dyno. When is it crucial to have ur timing tuned, by that i mean under partial throttle conditions, if i just run a stock b16 ignition basemap will that be safe. Turning 4600 rpms makes me nervous if the car isn't tuned, thats what rpm i'm at around 80 mph. Also , should i take that basemap and turn it back a few degrees to be safer, or forward, any suggestions will help. I am goin to put them in soon, but i want an idea of what to run before i get it dynod

I would suggest contacting your tuner for help and possibly a basemap if you are worried about driving untuned.

I am wondering what you ended up doing in this situation. I have similar paranoid feelings about my engine.

I'm building up my LS to 11:1CR which is a bit of a jump from 9.4:1. Did the stock map get you to the dyno OK>?

just don't rev it out and maybe retard a little bit of timing to get it to the dyno to be tuned.

if you're worried about driving it hard then don't until your tuned, but if you drive it easy like grandma and don't hit vtec or any large throttle positions you should be fine.

There reason why i brought this question up, is because I want to do my own tuning. I have a wideband, and have tuned a map out, but i'm not sure if the ignition timing of a stock b16 is safe with my high compression and my crower 63402 cams. I want to try to avoid taking it to a dyno if i can at least for a while. I would like to find someone running a similar setup. Any input would be appreciated.
