Car on of off when uploading?

I read this from the help:
Uploading a calibration to the ECU will transfer the calibration from the laptop to the ECU. The vehicle ignition must be switched on while uploading. To upload a calibration use Online->Upload or Ctrl+U.

The first time a calibration is uploaded to the ECU it will take approximately 1 minute. Subsequent uploads are performed differentially and take from 3 seconds - 15 seconds to upload.
however it doesnt say if the car CAN be or SHOULD NOT be running while uploading changes.. I noticed when uploading changes i get a CEL and the rpms drop as if the car wants to stall.

when Im uploading a NEW Kal then car just shuts off. Help me out, I dont want to break my engine uploading changes.

no the car should be off.
this is what you do:

stick your key in the ignition and turn the key to the second click. if yoyu just turn the key a little bit you will hear one click but if you turn your key a little bit more you'll hear the second click. now leave it in theat position and then upload you'll cal.

so i make that change, and turn off the car and upload just that one change?

what about this statement i picked up froma older threat?
If I want to change one thing, like a small part of a table or the idle speed, I increase rpm to about 2000 and hit upload. The engine won't stall.

I have done both - have the car on & upload as well as off and upload. The thing I noticed is that during uploading while the car is on, the car seem to go under some other fuel map(default ones maybe? built into ecu?) The engine runs rough while the software is uploading. After finishing uploading, then the engine goes back to normal. I have noticed some weird behavior if you upload while the engine is one. I have seen the engine, when decellerating, have a "hiccup" in revs. Somehow, the engine runs cleaner when the engine is off, and then upload.
