05 RSX S with Kpro

I have a customer that just got his ECU back today from hondata. He has a 02 RSX S ecu that was converted for an 05 RSX with the conversion harness.

he mailed his ecu in and had the work down and the dealer he went to told him that he could run the ecu without the 02-04 o2 sensor, but just wouldn't be able to tune the car with it.

He comes to me asking if he can install the ecu tonight, since he has a road race event this weekend and just wants the basic reflash that is already pre-programmed into the ecu.

I'm skeptical to say the least, but i know that normally the hondata base's have been conservative and since this car just has I/H/e-cutout, its really not highly modified, so the stock ITR map should do just fine.

My question, will the car run ok for him to road race it this weekend and drive to and from the track without the 04 o2 sensor. he will have the o5 o2 sensor in place, but since its not the same wideband, i didn't know if that would screw up things.

Thanks for the reply. My suggestion to him was just to wait til next weekend and buy the o2 sensor and call it a day, but i didn't know the specifics.

He should not use the 05 sensor as it will cause the car to run lean and or rich and may casue damage at part throttle. We say you need to 02-04 sensor for this reason. Just using a base calibration to road race is not recommended as he may lean out, especially with a cutout.

thanks,

that's exactly what i was thinking, that if the primary o2 sensor couldn't keep up or respond correctly, that the car would run subpar. It was just that he had a dealer tell him that the o2 sensor was only needed for tuning and i couldn't understand out the primary o2 used during closed loop could be swapped between 04 wideband and the 05 narrow.
