Tuning Question 110 Octane

Post by TransformedBG »

How do you tune for Race fuel vs regular 91 off the pump? Do you want a different AF ratio? or what?

Me currently have a k20A SC'ed.. So im just wondering. looking to pick up a few more horses when i head to the track. And i wont have a dyno there, so im just wondering.

you should be able to advance the timing a bit with higher octane. But I'll still recommend going to a dyno to see just how much you can advance it before the power starts to drop off

Higher octane fuel only makes any difference if you had to retard the ignition timing with lower octane fuel. If the burn rate of the fuels are similar (which they are), then advancing beyond the lower octane calibration will not give you any gains.

What if the ignition in the base map was already set based on detonation instead of max power?

From what I remember when we did the supercharged calibrations we tuned for maximum power, and there was no detonation. Still, the answer in the end is that the dyno will tell you.

Given that water injection slows the burn process down a bit, is this why advancing ignition makes for more power even though the octane rating really hasn't changed too much?
