question about closed loop

There is something that I don't understand. Hopefully, some of you are clarify it for me.

In the k-pro software, under "closed loop" tab, i can set of Max. map for closed loop rite. If i set it to be really high, like 100 kPa, the ECU should always run in closed loop. So my question is why can't an ECU always run in closed loop so that AF are automatically adjusted under different condition. Wouldn't that be nice? There must be a reason why ppl don't do it and i want know what that reason is.

Thanks!

remember that in closed loop the ecu will try its best to get the AF close to the chemically correct AF ratio (gasoline) of 14.7:1. THat is extremely lean under wide open throttle conditions. In open loop the all the sensors the ecu uses as reference to change the AF are disabled to prevent any changes to the cam angle/speed/density tables.

I though the AF cmd will still change to 12.5:1 under high load even in closed loop.

No OEs run closed loop at high load - the potential for engine damage from a component failure is too high.
