hondata connections

ok i've search a little on this and have found nothing. i need to know what i need to do in order for my hondata to datalog to my computer? do i have to have a ROMualtor?
all i have is the hondata interface box, the serial cable with a USB adapter. when i open hondalogger it pulls up the dash and it doesn't show any readings when the car is started.
