want to buy 05 rsx-s reflash but..

Post by ksun »

Well I am very interested in the reflash for the 05 rsx-s. Problem is, my car has about 7600 miles on it so far with a CAI. I have a little over 42k miles of warranty still, plus the fact that the car is a lease car. I am planning on purchasing at the end, however.

Anyway, my main concern is the fact that the reflash will void warranty if they can detect it. Now I know that based on the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, the dealer cannot deny warranty unless the part was the direct cause. I'm not entirely sure what kinds of problems can arise from a reflashed ecu.

My question is, can the dealer detect the reflash on a routine service? How hard do they really have to look to find it? I have heard that it is not detectable unless the technicians are specifically looking for it, and I don't want them to accidentally stumble upon it.

Thanks in advance.

I do not work at hondata.

The dealer will only detect it if they plug into the odb2 port and go into the ecu functions and verify the ecu's program. They will only do that if you report problems that after inspecting the physical issues and running them to ground and think the ecu is at fault. Nobody does that on routine maintenance. If they did find it, they would re-flash the ecu and determine that it wasn't the cause of your issue so at worst you loose your reflash in the genreal case.

I don't advocate the modification of lease cars, but in the general case, ecu flashes are fairly common in lease land.
