I have been tuning a 93 Civic with K-manager and it will only datalog for about 10-30 sec. and drop offline , we have tried three different laptops ( 2 dell 1 Compaq ) still same problem . I have done a search and saw that dells have this problem this is why we changed laptops , also did the engine ground suggestion . Please help this makes it a pain to tune .

Try using a usb cable that has better shielding. Has the k series motor had any ignition system changes done?

The same usb cable and laptops work on other k-pro ecus so it may be his daughterboard . No there is no ignition changes .

On other ecus in *this car* or other cars? That's important.

I do not work at hondata.

That seems to sum it up -- it's either a defective kpro ecu or interference. I'm betting on interference. There is probably something causing electrical interference in that car, enough to break usb communication. This has been seen a few times -- and most cases were solved with a better shielded usb cable and or ferris loops around the cable ends. The fact that it works in other cars, but not this car, seems to strongly indicate, to me, a difference in electrical noise (noise floor) when working with this car.

Finding the source of the noise (which may fairly hard) or addressing the usb cable shielding / ferris loops is really the only way to address this behavior.

If that doesn't work, or if you would rather try it first, trying a different kpro ecu of the same application may help rule out the ecu.
