What affects ignition timing?

I would like to use the more advanced ignition timing which gave me 29 mpg (from the cold air kal) or something similar now that I have the JR supercharger. What variables affect the ignition timing -- would it be possible to use the 'cruise' and 'light accelreation' (obviously not boost) ignition timing from the cold air map in my calibration I have been tuning for my jrsc? Is it going to be off too far to work with?
If it's simply not going to work -- how did you guys arrive at the ignition tables you sed in part throttle around town? Did you just advance it and watch for knock and back off 1-2 until the thing was knock free? I'm wanting to make my car as fuel effectient as it was before I had the charger if I stayed out of boost (as effectient as it CAN be considering the new drag of the charger will drop it no matter what).
