I need knowlegable help

Post by scrubb »

My car is a California model 1992 Civic VX. I now live in Connecticut. The check engine code gives code 48 (honda dealership tells me it means replace the oxygen sensor). But, They gave me the part number for the non-california VX model O2 sensor. So i have a few questions.

1. What is the correct part number for my oxygen sensor?
2. Is there a cheaper place to get it other than the dealership?
3. Would there be a problem using the non-California O2 sensor now that I live in Connecticut?
4. would an aftermarket brand such as Bosch work equally?

I just want my gas milelage back (now 26mpg, was 36mpg). The part number they gave me was for a non-california wideband oxygen sensor, which is quite expensive. And I wouldn't want to damage my car with a non-California part. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just buy the cheap universal bosch o2 sensor from your local autoparts store. Works just as great, about an 8th of the price the dealer wants.
