open loop

Post by hondahatch »

Hondata/Spunkster

Is it normal to get Check Light Code 1 (O2 sensor) running open loop ?

O2 sensor is stock 4 wire. When ignition is on initially, check light does not come on at all. Everything seems normal. Only after about 30 mins of driving (average 3000 rpm, max 4000 rpm), check light Code 1 comes on. Shut off ignition, start it again, no check light, after about 30 mins driving, check light comes on again.

When in closed loop no check light at all.

This is a known issue. This is one reason it is best to always run the vehicle in closed loop mode. Open loop should only be used for tuning.

If you want to run open loop and do not want to get the check engine light, have a very small closed loop threshold (say 400mbar). This way your car will be in closed loop only at idle and very light cruising and the rest of the time it will be in open loop.

good idea! common sense rules, but it's not so obvious sometimes :)
