Random power loss and low idle during CEL.

I have a S100 tuned by my local Hondata dealer. My engine is a b16 block, P72 head (OBD-I).

At random times at anything above the most mild throttle inputs a CEL will appear and cause a complete loss in power. The car will NOT accelerate and if I put the car into nuetral, the idle drops to about 200 RPM and verges on stalling out. After a few seconds of no throttle input, the CEL dissapears. Some extremely light throttle bucking is evident and well as bucking during the CEL period (sometimes). The CEL does not appear every day. I went a few days without seeing it at one point.

Originally it was thought to be a soldering problem - so that was redone to make double sure. It seems that was NOT the case, the problem persists. This may not be a Hondata related issue at all. If its not, is there any way to retrieve the code being thrown via a hondata master system?

I tried to pull the code myself but it just stayed lit. Solid CEL.

Thanks for your help, this problem needs to be sorted out soon and the more information im armed with, the better my chances.

Sounds like the ECU - the best way to check is to swap ECUs and run another ECU with the same ROM. If you have the same problem, it is the ROM, otherwise it is the ECU.

It could also be an intermittent wiring problem in the car that only happens at a certain resonance frequency.

Im thinking im going to have to try a new ECU. My car is being driven as we speak by the Hondata tuner that does all the tuning to the car. He is going to drive it with a datalogger on until it happens again then check to see what the problem is. I hope its not the ECU, P72's arent cheap.
