noob question...please forgive me

im brand new to hondata.
ive been playing with uberdata for a while and its starting to piss me off.
when i buy an s200 system....the blue interface box that comes with it needs to stay in the car with the ecu? or is it only used in the writing of the rom, etc?
so when im finished tuning all i have to install in the car is the ECU and not the interface box?
give me some info on this.
