2014 Civic Si Coupe FG4 - HONDATA NEW USER

Post by MikeyFG4 »

Hey everyone.

I just received my new HONDATA Flashpro mini and I managed to watch a few vids to get a basic reflash loaded into the car. I actually did it a couple times as I reverted back to the base maps for stock also, because suddenly. I was having idle surge. Very badly.

I searched and searched and saw many different things to diagnose. The cars super clean and never has even been launched. Ever. It has 90k original miles.

My mods
Invidia Q300 catback
Invidia Catted exhaust
K tune CAI -(OTW THIS THURSDAY-2days)
BC Racing BR Coilovers
18 In Enkei RPF1s. Silver
Brembo cross drilled rotors
Hybrid Racing Black short shifter
Hybrid Racing Shifter Cables
K Tune clutch cable (OTW-Thursday)

So right now. All it has “engine” wise is the invidia exhaust system. I flashed the base reflash and it definitely felt wayyy more zippy. Best way I could describe.

But from start up - the idle was surging the whole time. Up and down up and down. it was affecting slow moving driving when in gear. Almost falling on its face.

I used a scan tool and it said. IACV at first. I cleared it then I reloaded the stock base map. Right away, the idle was normal. Until I tapped the gas while sitting still and it started surging all over again. With stock map loaded.

(This car never had this issue before)

So! I went and bought throttle body cleaner and MAF Cleaner. I checked all the vacuum lines and coolant lines all connecting to the stock air box, throttle body annd intake manifold— and everything was All good. I still cleaned everything Properly. Tried again. Still surging.

Then, I reloaded the relfash again, but this time, I tinkered a tad bit with the IDLE #s. And brought the last parameters down 100RPM. To lower the idle speed. It was set at 1500-1200- then 176 degrees it was set for 750. I lowered the second group of these idle settings.

NO CHANGE.

Then I did a throttle relearn I seen but for an 8th gen and I think it worked?? I put the car in on position and then slowly pressed the throttle down then held it 3 seconds and let go. Repeating this 3 times and then shutting off the ignition. Started the car. Now, not only is it not surging, but also has the HONDATA reflash tune and so far, no surge. But I didn’t go drive it yet. I let it idle some waiting to see if it’ll do it and it didn’t. So I let it run the. Shit it off, also because I know my neighbors were not appreciative of this ruckus at 10:30pm —The idle slowly and gradually came down as the car ran like Normal. So I didn’t blip the throttle or try anything. I just shut it for the evening.

Is this what fixes this issue if there’s no mechanical problem?? Is this a known problem? This car was babied. And even with the throttle Body cleaner. Not a spec of anything came off it. So I doubt it was dirt or a vacuum leak all of a sudden. It never EVER gave me any issues before. Until now. But if it is an intermittent IACV problem. What do I do for it ? And wouldn’t that be quite the coincidence?? First time I load a new map. It has idling problems? That it never had before. Not even remotely.

And lastly. I really REALLY am looking for someone who knows how to tune, to help me make sure my car’s tuned properly at least street tuned. I do have an appointment for a dyno tube at redline performance next Monday morning - but I want to make sure when I put everything in it, that it’ll run reliably and safely on 93 pump for the two hour drive to the dyno.

My names Mike
929-262-2757 -text me if you can properly tune and school me on the HONDATA flashpro. It would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked if the car is throwing any codes? It’s possible something is going out? Did the issue start after you added your mods?
