FlashPro's VTEC question

hi:
I am new in this forum. My car, a JDM, Honda Civic Type R, FD2 has a set of TODA A3 camshafts and other recommended TODA RACING supporting parts with Invidia Q300 cutback exhaust. The rest is pretty bone stock.

My tuner has set for me the VTEC activation rpm at 5800RPM. When I read the FlashPro Help at https://www.hondata.com/help/flashpro/i ... _point.htm

"Generally the VTEC point will be 5500-5700 rpm on a stock engine, 4500-4800 rpm with intake & exhaust, 3000-3200 rpm for supercharged applications. Aftermarket cams generally require a high VTEC point"

With regard to the above mentioned text, my key question is:

What should be the VTEC point in this case? Should it be HIGHER than stock engine's 5500-5700 rpm as specified above?

Thanks.
SK
P.S. I can provide the dyno chart if needed

You will have to dyno tune it to find where the power dips and peaks to set the VTEC point to have the smoothest transition.

Hi, Spunkster:
I understood what you are saying as what u mentioned is in the Hondata FlashPro Help too. But I want to know the specific answer to my question.

Thanks. May be Hondata geek can chime in to shine a light or two?

I am just curious to know from either Hondata or someone who can delve a bit deeper.

Cheers.
SK

He gave you the answer. The only true way to know when the cams require to cross over efficiently is to overlay the power bands on a dyno printout.

As default, Honda had the VTEC cross over higher so people could "feel" VTEC "kick in". This idn't happen so much when i-VTEC was introduced.

Without a dyno, you could always overlay all fuel maps to see a popential point...

I think you should leave everything to yout tuner... ask him the question.
