KPRO V4 P0500 DTC VSS No Signal JDM K20A

Post by MYTON »

Hi everyone....I have a 98 Spec JDM DC2R, and I have two PRC ECU's one is PRC-013(No KPRO) and one is PRC-023(K PRO v4).

I recently did a K swap (02-04 DC5R full swap harness trans...everything) When I used the non KPRO v4 ECU, I had a p0141 code and p0600 code. To remove these codes I bought a PRC ECU with KPRO already installed. When I loaded a K20a2 w/ITR cams base map or the K20A ITR base map.
I get a p0500 VSS code...

My dashboard works perfectly fine. I also have a Defi ZD advance system digital gauge and the Speedometer works also.

Is this ECU bad? Is it my Hybrid Racing Conversion Harness? Is the VSS bad or on its way out?

Any help would be appreciated.

When you datalog are you seeing any VSS readings?

Is the VSS signal wired to the ECU?

It will read 3mph and just stop and hold there.... I see this is quite a common issue, but I am unsure how to diagnose it. The gear ratios match my type r transmission. In MISC I chose the normal speed sensor, so I am not sure what next step I should take...

How would I confirm if the VSS is wired to the ECU?

Post the calibration used and a datalog using that calibration showing the issue.

Here is an updated log using the K20A2 Calibration with stock itr cams and shows when the vss speed appears.

Have you tried the ECU on a known working vehicle?

I do not have access to another vehicle. Could it be a faulty ECU?
Is there anyway to verify vss voltage in kpro?

VSS is not voltage, it is pulses per revolution of the wheel. You need to look at the wiring of the vss sensor and trace it through the harness and see where it goes.

OK. Ill trace it today. However, if I have two of the same ecu and only one displays a p0500 code wouldnt that mean this ecu is bad? Is it possible to have faulty wiring and not get a p0500 code, because i didnt have this code when i used a stock PRC ecu..

I think I found the break in the wiring. This is the A connector and the wiring with a cap on it is white/green The speedometer c101 white/green wire passes through and works, but going to the ecu there is this break. This cap should NOT be here correct?

How should i reconnect this wire into the circuit? Should I attach it with the c101 plug just before the connector?

I don't see a cap. It looks like the wire does not go into the ECU plug and has a different connector for some other use.
