First time s300 user

Post by IStall »

Hello,

Having some trouble with my new s300 i purchased from sfr. Did not included the new capacitor for c14. number 64945.

I can connect, go online, pressing data logging works, but I have no feed back from any sensors. Green light comes on when laptop is hooked up and ignition is off (d4). Red light flickers as if the laptop is sending some signal to the s300, but it doesn't seem to change much with how the car runs (probably in limp mode, solid CEL, not able to see codes). I have a 98 ek hatch with a d16y7/z6 mini me running off a p28 w/ jumper, that previously worked fine for the most part besides a MAP code occasionally. The exhaust smells very fuel rich, i have ebay injectors that are supposedly 240 cc but who knows. First issue is figuring out what might be up with the ECU. I tried it as it was after installing the s300. Car had issues starting unless you held on the gas (Flooding fuel?). Put my old p2e back in, car starts ok, don't think it will drive that great since IACV and VTEC are wired to the jumper. Tried to replace the c14 capacitor with another identical one from a slightly newer p2p ecu, no change in how the laptop interacts.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I have uploaded a calibration, but it doesn't seem to change anything regardless if I erase ECU or just update the tune. If you mean data log like does the button light up, yes it does and I believe the graph flickers different squares. But there is no data feedback, no rpm ECT Iat nothing.

Is J12 cut on the ECU?

Yes j12 is cut, I followed the instructions on the hondata website for socketing. The only place that stumped me was with r54 resistor about wether or not to use it. I tried both ways with and without, and same results

I've seen some without r54 pins all together and was unsure wether I needed to use it. I looked around online and saw someone saying that it is necessary.

Post pictures of the soldering done on the bottom of the ECU for the s300.

There is a jumper in rp18, that's why the solder is sh*t on the back side

It looks like there are a number of bad solder joints for the 14 pin rows for the s300, as the pins are not visible and the through hole vias may be damaged. You may need to use a different ECU.

Yes, that is a good point and it is something I was thinking about. I could only get the pins in that layer to come flush with the board, not all the way through for some reason

Any opinion on r54 resistor or capacitor?

I believe the soldering of the pins are the most likely cause of the problems. We recommend all capacitors be replaced. You can purchase them at: https://hondata.com/accessories/capacit ... uage=en-gb

Thank you, will try again later tonight to correct. If not do you have a good recommendation for sourcing a new OBD1 ECU? I don't really care about which one it is specifically as long as it is set up for Vtec and manual.

Thanks
