Hi there,
I have an Ariel Atom (K20Z4 FN2 engine with supercharger), and I want to change certain engine parameters like its idle rev rpm (needed because of modifications to the oil pump) and, eventually, reducing the amount of engine braking at zero throttle (because the car is very light weight and actually slides on its own in 1st and 2nd when wet, just by releasing the throttle).
I have bought a FlashPro for this car specifically, and as a first step wanted to backup the engine's settings (or calibration, in FlashPro 'speak'). I'm slowly learning that this might be impossible because there is no technical provision for this (am I right) - no way to download and show/store the ECU settings via FlashPro. There only seems to be one direction, and that is to store data in the ECU but no way to read it back.
That's a very bad start for me, as being an engineer the first thing when tinkering with anything is to make a backup of the original state..
Three questions guys:
- am I right with the above?
- if yes, what will happen when I click on the 'return ECU to stock' button in the software? I'm quite sure that Ariel is not using the 'stock' Honda Civic TypeR settings, they likely have done mods, for example adding the supercharger tune. Will I get back what Ariel has programmed, or will I get a stock Civic tune?
- does anyone have a calibration file for this car?
Cheers Frank
help needed for correct approach for making smaller mods to stock settings
Re: help needed for correct approach for making smaller mods to stock settings
If you return to stock the original Honda factory calibration will be uploaded and the immobilizer will be enabled. You will not be able to return to stock. You may be able to get a file from Ariel that is what is currently on it, but you will not be able to "return to stock" as it is.

Thanks! That is confirming my assumption. So the only safe way is to get the correct file for this car.
Just to double confirm: am I right that it is not possible to read out the Hondata ECU with the Hondata FlashPro? (I am a hardware engineer and somehow I can't wrap my head around this - I'd never implement a write function without implementing a matching read function...)

No, you cannot read from the ECU.
