Power gains of CARB FlashPro

Post by MatthewakaMatt »

Sorry if this is answered somewhere and I didn't find it, but I'm trying to find out how much benefit the CARB FlashPro offers on an 8th gen Civic Si. There are lots of dyno plots on the website for the 8th gen Civic Si with the race FlashPro and various modifications. However, I can't find any dyno plots or other documentation of how much is possible with the CARB FlashPro.

I have a US 2006 Civic Si with a currently stock drivetrain, and am only wanting to do emissions legal modifications to it. I was planning on getting a tuner and intake, but wasn't sure how the power gains would compare with the race FlashPro dynos listed.

There might not be a large gain. From what I gather you can not adjust the timing and fuel tables. Doing this is crucial to gaining power.

Hondata can chime in for more information as I am sure they did testing for this product.

There are some gains to be had, but you can only use it with CARB legal parts and you cannot alter the fuel or timing to try to tune for more power. There is only one CARB approved calibration for this vehicle. You can download and install the software and see all that you can change in the CARB calibration.

So with the CARB approved parts, is there any sense or measure of how far off this version is from the original? For example the intake I have in mind to pair with the FlashPro is Injen CAI which is CARB approved and is one of the parts that has been tested by Hondata with some fairly promising results.

Would it be reasonable to expect that same intake and the CARB FlashPro to make power just a little off the full race tune? Something about halfway between it and the stock baseline? Or if you can't speak to a test you haven't run, is there any sense for how the stock tuned CARB vs. stock tuned Race configurations compare?

In most cases the CARB tune and race tunes are identical except where we have to tune fuel for the peculiarities of the intake.

In theory if an intake is CARB approved then it does not alter the air flow readings and thus requires no tuning. In practice that is seldom the case.

Also for many vehicles we have found that the stock intake makes more power, especially once you close the hood on 'hot air intakes'.

Sorry if this is not helping your original question.

How does the CARB FlashPro provide gains if it does not alter fuel/air maps?

Changes are made, but they do not alter the emissions of the vehicle.
