at29c256 chips going bad?

Post by servion »

Do these things go bad regularly? I have 2 of them, and as of yesterday I cannot program either of them. 2 days ago, I could write a program to one of them, and now when I try, it fills the window with the "xx found, expected xx" messages and will not program the chip. I can still successfully use the emulator with the romeditor to run my car... in fact, that is the only was I can run my car, so I have to have my laptop running to use my daily driver. Could I have done something to mess these chips up? Any suggestions?

If you plug in a 29c256 backwards it will get very hot and usually fail afterwards. If the programmer can program other 29c256 chips then both your chips are bad, otherwise it is the programmer.

that's probably what happened.... I don't have any more chips to try, but the programmer works with the emulator... actually, that's how I'm driving my car. this is my daily (and only) driver, so I'm stuck with booting my lappie everytime I want to go somewhere until I can find some more.

Actually... will the 29c256-90 work? I gues its just a faster chip... would that be ok?
