Boost control air temp compensation using outside temp sensor?

Post by sameer25 »

Hey,

So I am having an issue with having too much boost in the winter and less boost in the summer. So i have an 8th gen civic si (2007) with the stock K20z3 but I have a turbo kit. I am using a 3-port boost controller that is pinned into the ecu (pin B2). I am using boost by gear using the boost control duty lookup table. Everything is working great in that regard but i am having issues controlling boost as the seasons change.

Im currently using the "boost control air temp compensation" table which changes the boost control duty based on the stock iat sensor. This gives me overboosting issues as the iat temps heat up. Using that table, lets say my boost duty is 23% at 86F iat and 20% at 68F. when its cold outside and i make 16lbs of boost at 20% duty my iat is 68F, During my pull the iat goes up to 86F(during the pull with the outside temp still being cold) and raises boost duty to 23% and causes me to hit my boost cut set at 18lbs. However, during the summer when it is warm outside, i get 14lbs at 23% boost duty at 86F iat. This can be very annoying as i have to upload a new calibration with lower/higher boost duty every time the weather changes.

My car comes with a outside temperature sensor which displays the outside temperature in my dash (odometer). this sensor is accurate when measuring the temperature outside and doesnt change much. Is there a way where i can use that sensor in the "boost control air temp compensation" instead of the iat sensor? Is there another way to avoid having to reupload the calibration everytime the weather changes?

No that sensor cannot be used.

Where is your IAT sensor located in your setup?

My IAT sensor is located after the intercooler right before the throttle body. I am using the stock MAF sensor for IAT. Is the MAF sensor good enough to use as the IAT sensor? I know a lot of people use the rsx IAT sensor. is that better?
