Kpro good, ecu bad

Post by edgar_rz716 »

i have a kpro v4 sn: 63199 on a pnf-a03 ecu in a d17.
To start from the beginning, i’ve had problems with kpro since it first got installed on the ecu. first time i plugged it in and cranked it, car turned over for 5-10 seconds then shut off every single time. this is on a stock motor and stock harness. eventually i disconnected the immobilizer and it finally turned on for about 20 minutes… then the ecu stopped responding. it would not connect to the laptop and the main relay wouldn’t click on. HOWEVER when i connect the D17 ecu it turns over for a couple seconds even with the hondata cam gear and bigger injectors in it. i sent the ecu to the same authorized dealer that installed it so they could diagnose it and determined the ecu was bad, but kpro was still good (they connected my ecu to a working ep3 to confirm the ecu was bad).
So now, i’m wondering what could’ve possibly caused the ecu to go bad, and how i can prevent the same thing from happening if i buy a new ecu and install it again, and if hondata can somehow help.
Anything is appreciated

It's possible the ECU was previously damaged, or there could be a wiring issue in the vehicle that has damaged the ECU. Since this was sold as an install kit to Alamo Autosports you will have to have them take a look at it. If the ECU is damaged, they should be able to install the K-Pro into a working ECU that you provide.
